Northern League Report 20th June 2026

26/06/26
Wavertree round up 20.06 from Lesley, Team Manager.
A fixture where we showed true Deeside character. We knew we were short of bodies, so needed people to cover gaps, and give new events a go, which was brilliant to see. Everyone stepped up.
The day kicked off strong with a win for Isobel in the A long jump, and an impressive return to competing for Amy following her cancer treatment - she came 2nd in the B, and won shot B later on - well done Amy.
Nick led the charge covering 800, as well as TJ and then 5k….and next time who knows the 400H too maybe (along with Jess??! ????). Great attitude pulling the team together Nick.
Elis showed talent and character giving 400H a go and coming 4th in the A, giving us critical points. He then went into secure a ruck of additional points in long jump, 800, 1500 and 4x4!
Other great performances from the men were Toby 2nd in A TJ with a PB jump, Harry 3rd in the A javelin, and Tomas putting in a shift covering 1500 and 5k in gruelling heat.
The Greta father and son duo also proved too much for the competition in the shot, with Dorel taking the A win, and Harry the B win, max points there. Also great points in javelin, and Dorel in the A discus narrowly taking 2nd. They shot were our only male wins though on the day in the shot. Well done both.
Our small team of 11 men covered 26 events between them! But a total of 9 PBs on the day and Sam, Ryan, Nick, Toby, Harry and Stu pushing PBs on as result.
It was similar in the women’s, a small team of 11 covering 27 events and all relays.
The Womens team secured great points with top placings, and accrued 6 A wins - from Isobel in LJ, Liv in TJ and hurdles, Eleanor in 800, Orla in HJ and me in hammer…..proving we had good cover across track and field. 2B wins, were from Isobel in HJ and
A big well done and thank you to Leda, Harper, Briony and Meg W, who max’d out their number of events they could do and secured high B placings across 100, 200, 3k, 800, LJ, SP, HT and DT. And PBs for Maddi in 100 and javelin, Jess in the 200, and Eleanor in the 400 - congrats ladies.
Tired legs were evident in the relays, everyone had done at least 3 events or the max they could do! but I’m proud that no one dropped out or let the team down, everyone was shattered and had put a shift in, and crossed the line to get the points. But it was great to see Vasyl taking the baton over the line in the 4x1. Vasyl is from Ukraine, and celebrated his 70th birthday in the week. What an inspiration.
Great work from our team of Officials Hannah, Liz, Dave, Stu, Celfyn, Jo, Neil and Briony too gaining us a further 45 points.
And finally a big shout out to top scoring athletes mention to Liv who topped that table for her 100H, 7th for her TJ, and Orla for HJ 4th placed.
I’m excited for the next fixture at home, we know we’ll have more athletes and home advantage, who knows what’s possible….we’ll be pushing for top 2 ????
